Marija Matušakaitė was born in 1924 in the estate of Varekonys, Kaunas district. In 1941 she graduated from St. Kazimir's sisters congregation girls' gymnasium. In 1941-48 she studied at Kaunas State university and gained the speciality of architect. In 1959-95 she studied at State Art Institute and gained the speciality of art historian. In 1948-65 she worked as an architect at Lithuanian institutions of architectural planning, in 1961-63 - as an art director at Vilnius models house, in 1963-83 - as a lecturer at Kaunas Polytechnic institute (docent). Member of Lithuanian Artists Association, Lithuanian Architects Association, Lithuanian Art Historians Society, Kaunas Archdiocese Church Art Committee. Dr. Marija Matušakaitė is an author of many books and other publications of art history, laureate of the National Culture and Art Award. |
